Dear Brackett Families, Happy Friday! Today is the final day for classes taking MCAS at Brackett! I am so proud of our entire community and how they supported each other in this testing. It is also Career Spirit Day sponsored by the Student Council. Students should dress up as who they want to be when they grow up. Of course, I'll be dressing up as the Brackett principal.:) Please consider volunteering for Field Day and for the June Fair. These two end of year events are such a fun time for the Brackett community. We need all of you!! Here is the May Art Newsletter. Check it out and make a plan to enjoy the Art Show from June 1-8. Ms. Chisholm will be around during June Fair to talk to families about the magnificent art!
Thank you again to those community members who came to the Assistant Principal forums on Monday. Best, Dr. Vice |

From the PE TeamHello Brackett Families,
We are excited to start the skateboarding unit at Brackett. The goal of introducing skateboarding is to expand the physical education program at Brackett to more non-traditional activities, and will be taught in grades three, four, and five. The program was made possible through the Arlington Education Foundation Innovations Grant and with the help of the PTO. We have a set of skateboards, helmets, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, and curriculum from Skate Pass-Skateboarding in School.
The skateboarding unit will cover safety, stance, pushing, stopping, riding, grabbing, and carving. As with all units taught in physical education, skateboarding will be taught in a sequential, safe manner in which all students can feel comfortable learning.
Although we have enough equipment for every student, we would suggest that your child bring in their own helmet during the week of the skateboarding unit. This will help with trying to fit each student with the correct helmet size. We will provide hair nets for those wanting to use a Brackett helmet in an effort to stay healthy. The Skateboard unit will take place the week of May 18 and the week of May 25.
Thank you! Guy Schiavone, Jon Hawes PE/Wellness Teachers |
