From Nurse BarasDear Brackett Families, In addition to sharing our December Health Office Happenings newsletter with you, I wanted to share some health reminders as we get into the winter months. Viral illnesses, as they always do during the winter, are on the rise. We are seeing an increase in students not feeling well, with a variety of illness symptoms. Please refer to the APS Illness Guidelines to help you decide if your student is well enough to attend school. Although school attendance is important, we must all do our part in helping to keep the school community healthy, and stay home when we are sick. Separately, we have also been seeing some cases of pediculosis (head lice). Although it is not a disease, pediculosis is a common occurrence in elementary schools, and most commonly spreads through prolonged head-to-head contact. I track cases of pediculosis and work to identify any clusters or outbreaks, and send notifications accordingly. Please let me know if your student is diagnosed with pediculosis. More information and resources can be found here. I am continuously working to track illnesses to help identify any trends or outbreaks within the school community. Please remember to inform me if your student is diagnosed with a communicable illness (influenza, strep throat, COVID, etc.) or pediculosis.
