Family Newsletter Week of 3/14/2024

Dear Brackett Families,

So many exciting events this week!

On Monday the Read-a-Thon minutes exploded paving the way for a fun filled Wednesday with t-rex (brown dinosaur) and pink unicorn inflatables for the principals. Not only did we wear these at drop-off and pick-up, but also for the incredible performance by the Dance Lords, sponsored by the PTO Cultural Committee. Thank you!

Tomorrow (Friday) will be another fantastic display of Brackett spirit as we celebrate math & science during STEM Night. This event is free for all. Snacks & drinks will be available for purchase.

There is no Math Morning this Friday due to STEM night preparations.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make these events possible. You are living the district vision of bringing JOY to learning and creating a sense of BELONGING for all our students.

Best,
Dr. Vice

World Down Syndrome Day!

Next Thursday, March 21, is World Down Syndrome Day!

WDSD is celebrated on 3/21 in honor of the three copies of the 21st chromosome that all people with Down syndrome have. One way to show appreciation and support for classmates and communities is to wear fun patterned, mismatched socks, because chromosomes look like socks, and all socks are the same even when they look different from one another, just like people, with or without Down syndrome.

On Thursday 3/21, celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by sending your student(s) to school wearing their brightest, mismatched socks.

Brackett currently has three students with Down syndrome- in second, third, and fifth grade. Have your student(s) check their classroom libraries for books about Down syndrome that families may have donated as they moved through the grades. The bulletin board in the main lobby of the school next week will highlight some great books to keep an eye out for too!

Green Team - Clean Up Day

Brackett has a lot of litter on the ground. We need your help! Come to Bracketts community-wide litter cleanup on Saturday, March 23 (start time 10am) to help make Brackett litter free. The Green Team will provide grabbers and bags for the clean up. Please bring gardening gloves so that we keep disposable ones out of landfills. After the clean up, help make signs to remind Brackett students to pick up after themselves and keep litter off the ground!

EL Info Session

You are invited to attend an APS EL Information Session on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 5:30pm via Zoom. Come and learn more about our new literacy curriculum that will be used in all K-5 classrooms next school year. You will have an opportunity to learn more about the curriculum, engage in activities from lessons, and ask questions. Please review the attached flier for more information.
