Family Newsletter Week of 1/26/2024

Dear Brackett Families,

Thank you to everyone who gave their input to the playground designers last Thursday. If you are still interested in adding feedback, please take this brief survey.

Photos of the students’ ideas as well as process boards are on display in the front office area of the school. Feel free to drop by and see these! Stickers are available to mark your favorite ideas.

Looking for Brackett Alum…
Did you go to Brackett? Do you have an older child at Ottoson or the High School? We are looking for 21+ special guest readers as feature readers in Brackett Literacy Week (Feb 26–Mar 1) and want to feature our fabulous Brackett alums!

The special guests will read on Wednesday, February 28 from 8:10-8:30. Books will be provided. Think about if you, your older children, or maybe someone else you know who went to Brackett would like to be a reader. Sign ups will come out next week!

Also coming soon… sign up to help with the Hour of Code!

Best,
Dr. Vice

Arlington students in Grades 3-5 will be taking the MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) tests this spring beginning the week of March 25. Students in Grades 3 and 4 will take the ELA (English Language Arts) and Mathematics exams. Students in Grade 5 will take the ELA (English Language Arts), Mathematics, and STE (Science Technology & Engineering) exams.

I will share more about how the school uses MCAS data in future emails; however, I wanted to provide you with the dates for Brackett testing now so you can ensure that your child can be present on their testing days.

Tuesday and Thursday are our testing days. The dates for specific grade levels & tests are listed below:

Grade 3 – Mathematics: May 14 and May 16

Grade 4 – ELA: March 26 and March 28

From the Nurse

On behalf of the Arlington Public Schools Nursing Team, I am very excited to announce that the SNAP Health Portal will be available to Brackett families starting on Monday, February 26, 2024. More information about this can be found here.

SNAP is the electronic health record that the APS nursing team uses to document all of our interactions with students. Similar to PowerSchool being students’ educational portal, SNAP serves as their electronic school health record.

I will hold a voluntary meeting via Zoom on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 PM for any families who would like to get additional information or ask questions about the portal. Here is the Zoom link for that meeting. All Brackett families are welcome to attend.
