Family Newsletter Week of 01/04/2024

Dear Brackett Families,

Welcome to 2024!! As the New Year began, we launched a Brackett Instagram account to provide photos/videos to accompany the weekly emails. See below for details.

At Coffee with Dr. Vice this week, we discussed the new playground project and drew our own magical adult playground spaces to get a glimpse into how the students will be adding their input into the design project. I invite you to come to our PTO meeting on January 18 for another chance to find out more about the playground. Please RSVP here so we can plan accordingly.

We look forward to seeing all of you next week for Conferences. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 am on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Grab-and-go lunches will be provided for students who are getting lunch on those days.

Families should enter through the front entrance. In the front hallway near the rainbow rug, we will have a table set up for you to sign in.

Finally, please read the information from the nurse carefully this week. We have to work as a community to keep us all healthy.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Best,
Dr. Vice

From the Nurse

As we get further into the winter months, we are seeing a rise in illnesses, both in the school and the community at large. Although there have not been any identified outbreaks at school at this time, there has been a recent increase in COVID and influenza cases within the school community.

Please remember to follow the school illness guidelines, as well as the APS COVID Protocols. Both of these can be found on the APS Health and Nursing website. If you suspect that your student may have a communicable disease, please take them to their pediatrician/health care provider for evaluation. Please let me know if your student is diagnosed with a communicable disease.

If your student does not have a communicable disease (i.e., COVID, influenza, strep throat), they can attend school with mild symptoms, but should wear a quality face mask until symptoms fully resolve. Masks should be provided from home, but there is a supply in the nurse's office, if needed.

Lastly, please keep your student home if they are feeling unwell. Use the school illness guidelines and COVID protocols to help guide your decision, or reach out to me if you need further guidance.

Happy Retirement Messages

Help wish Ms. Killeen a happy retirement. Here is the communication sent to families on Jan 1.

Send your thank yous, fond memories, photos, and well wishes into the front office or electronically via our Kudo Board. We will gift a printed bound copy of these messages to Ms. Killeen.

Follow us on INSTAGRAM

To provide photos of our amazing community while keeping our emails focused and brief, we decided to create a Brackett Elementary Instagram account. Please follow us at brackettelem for photos and videos. Please know that we will not show student faces within these posts to protect the anonymity of all.

Fourth Grade Families…

A selection of Fourth Grade students at Brackett will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Thursday, February 8, 2024. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. More information about this and how to opt out can be found here.
