Family Newsletter week of 11/30/2023

Dear Brackett Families,

I am excited to be writing this message from Denver where I am participating in a National Conference for our new literacy curriculum. The EL “National Conference (ELNC) brings together over 1,400 educators including teachers, school and district leaders, and education thought leaders from all over the world who are motivated by a common vision of what is possible for all K–12 students. ELNC helps educators prepare students to contribute to a better world.” This is an amazing opportunity for collaboration for me, our literacy coach, and other educators from the district.

Tonight from 5-7pm is Family Night at the Brackett Book Fair! We look forward to seeing so many of you there! Please let me or Ms. Alfonso know if we can help your family out with participating in this school wide event. Tomorrow brings Photo Retakes, 101 Dalmatians shows are on Sunday, and Monday is Math Night for 2nd and 3rd grade. It's a busy time! Thank you for continuing to engage with us during this fun-filled season.

Finally, WE REALLY NEED YOUR FEEDBACKPlease provide feedback for our community by taking the Panorama Survey!! If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact the district data coordinator, Matt Coleman

Best,
Dr. Vice

Conference Sign ups

Next Wednesday, December 6 at/around 6pm (school messenger is slow at times, I apologize), the links to sign-ups for conferences will be sent out to all families in an email from me.

Per the district calendar, conferences are during the afternoons of January 9 and January 10 and the evening of January 11.

Hopefully receiving all the links at once allows for better coordination for families with multiple children in the school. I’m asking that you try to use the times provided by teachers in their sign ups. This is dedicated time that they have to talk specifically with you about your child’s progress and show you work that they have done in the first half of the school year.

From the Nurse

Managing Illness this Fall/Winter

The leaves have dropped, the air is colder, and just like that, fall/winter illness season seems to be officially upon us. As such, there has recently been an increase in illnesses within the school community. Communicable diseases (common cold, influenza, strep throat, COVID-19, etc.) can move quickly through settings where groups of people work closely together, and schools are no exception. It is important for all of us to watch ourselves closely for symptoms of illness, and stay home when we are feeling unwell.

Part of my role as the school nurse is to monitor and help stop the spread of illness, but I cannot do it without your partnership. Continue to encourage your students to maintain good hand hygiene throughout the day, avoid touching their faces, covering when they cough or sneeze, and most importantly, remaining home when sick. If your student becomes ill and you are unsure if they should attend school or not, please reach out to me and I can help you make a plan in accordance with our school illness guidelines.
